Saturday June 12th
Oundle & St Ives
In the morning we will be stopping at Oundle, a historic market town in Northamptonshire on the River Nene, famous for its Georgian streets and impressive limestone buildings. In the town there is a range of independent shops, coffee houses, pubs and eateries and of course the famous Public School.
A good place for morning coffee is the lovely old Talbot Hotel, (amongst many others) where Mary Queen of Scots is reputed to have stayed before her execution at nearby Fotheringhay. Our visit here will coincide with the lively Farmers’ market held in the main street.
Leaving Oundle we travel to St Ives in Cambridgeshire which is a charming riverside market town steeped in history and brimming with local charm. Nestled along the banks of the River Great Ouse, this delightful town offers plenty to see and do. The 15th-century St. Ives Bridge is the town’s most iconic landmark, spanning the River Great Ouse with its distinctive stone arches and small chapel. You can cross the bridge on foot to admire its historic features and enjoy stunning views of the river. The town has several independent shops, cafes, restaurants and pubs.
The coach will leave Crown shelter Albrighton High Street at 7.45am and Trinity Methodist Church, Histons Hill, Codsall at 8.00am. The cost of today’s trip is £35
